Hath the rain a father?
or who hath begotten
the drops of dew?

Job 38:28 KJV

The first two chapters of the book of Job teach us of the forever position of Satan to the Lord, even after his removal from heaven when he was banished to earth.

His work on earth is basically twofold:

  • Capture the souls of the lost.

  • Diminish the souls of the saved.

The last forty chapters of Job display Job's efforts to discover why his excellent life had been so cursed. Implicit in those last forty chapters is an unspoken lament of "WHY". God did not directly answer that lament but He did spend those chapters expressing a different answer showing Job that the will of man is eternally subordinate to the will of God, whose will is perfect regardless of man's impression of it.

In chapter 38 God impresses upon Job how His work is continual on earth, even where there is no man present to see it. He summarizes His will with His question to Job in verse 28: "...who hath begotten the drops of dew?"

These seven words have changed my heart and have reminded me in my darkest hours that my spirit must be always submissive to my Lord.
